Photo Dating: Simple Tips for Improvement
admin | September 23, 2010
In photo dating, appearance truly matters. It is often the photo that makes another person decide if he or she will read your profile in the first place. Therefore, it is important for everybody to pick a profile photo that accurately represents what they really look like in person. One shouldn’t even think about tweaking the photo to improve one’s physical attributes; it is never a good idea to deceive other people into thinking you look way better than you do in real life. Here are some tips for improvement when it comes to photo dating:
1. Good lighting is key
Good lighting is very important in photo dating. The wrong kind of light can highlight features you wish to hide, such as the dark circles under your eyes. Go for indirect lighting instead of intense sunlight. Also, avoid posing under fluorescent bulbs; they give off a greenish tint to your photo.
2. Avoid taking photos of yourself in the mirror
Mirror photos aren’t advisable for photo dating. It can send two messages to the viewer: (1) you don’t have friends or family members to take your photo for you and (2) you are too cheap to get a camera with a timer. Obviously, these messages aren’t the ones you want to convey to a potential date.
3. Angle the shots
When it comes to photo dating, choose angled shots rather than straight ones. Pictures aimed at eye level usually misrepresent one’s features. Profile shots also never work (they only do so for models). Remember, angled is always better.
4. Choose a solo photo
Cropping another individual from a photo is a no no, especially in photo dating. Slicing someone out of an image usually results in phantom body parts, so don’t even try. No one wants to see an unaccounted for arm around your shoulder or a ponytail with a missing head in your dating profile.
5. Smile
Online daters are attracted to people who are happy, so don’t forget to smile in your photos. People naturally gravitate towards individuals who radiate happiness; hence, you should only post your happiest pictures. If you’ve just fought with someone or is struggling with a hangover, don’t pose for photo dating yet.
